Video Conferencing and Teams Telephony Equipment

As part of the campus telephony upgrade project IITS is offering video conferencing and Teams calling equipment (headsets/handsets) to cover campus needs.

A headset or handset can enhance your Teams calling experience. In addition, the headsets on this list can be used with Zoom or any other web conferencing tool.

Whether you have already been moved to Teams or it is coming up in the next few months you can go ahead and get on the list for equipment. There is quite a large number of people to deploy to so the sooner we get your information the better.

Equipment Options That Work Best For You

There are a variety of equipment options to choose from, including wireless and wired headsets with either single or dual earpieces and (by approval) desk phones. For enhanced personal flexibility, sometimes the best device is your own device.  If you prefer, you can connect using your own personal headset or earbuds.

Note: IITS offers full support for equipment on this list. For equipment not on this list, IITS can provide limited support, but it cannot be guaranteed to work with campus systems.

IITS will:

  • Deliver/Check out the necessary equipment to you.
  • Help to install it.
  • Deploy one telephony device per employee.
  • If ADDITIONAL devices are desired, Procard holders may purchase from the Campus Marketplace which has  vendors like  B&H Photo and CDWG with pre-arranged pricing.  Note: Be sure to purchase one of the EXACT models off of this page otherwise IITS may not be able to support it working with your system.

Please review the options below, complete the form, then stop by Craven 2209 to pick up your headset. If you selected a desk phone our staff will be coming by to install it in your office.

Please consider your choice carefully before you pick up your headset. Absolutely no exchanges allowed.

The telephony gear trade-in program has ended.

If you still have a legacy phone and want to trade it in for a Teams desk phone or headset please email telops@csusm.edu.

Note: Free telephony equipment is only for current staff/faculty transitioning from a legacy phone to Teams or Mitel MiCC Agent. For new hires or student assistants please email telops@csusm.edu with a chargeback number and indicate the desired equipment type.

Headsets versus Handsets

Desktop phone handsets are not required to make and receive calls when using Microsoft Teams; however, there are special cases where an approved Teams-certified phone handset may be more appropriate than a headset.

Below are guidelines to assist departments and users in determining whether a headset or handset is appropriate for their calling needs. Handset requests are prioritized on a case-by-case basis, and recommendations for handset installations are made by IITS after conferring with the customer. We expect most users to select one of the headset options due to the flexibility of using a headset over the traditional desktop instrument.

  1. Users who have specific ADA requirements where portable headsets or speakers cannot be used.
  2. Phones in open reception areas where 4-digit extension calls are the main method of communication.
  3. Individuals who do not have a computer/computer equipment with the ability to connect a speaker and microphone, or headset/portable speaker.
  4. Common area spaces that host guest or visitor phone lines.
