Captioning Services

All videos that are published to the public web must be captioned, including youtube videos if those are hosted upon the university's site. Videos that are hosted through MediaSite are able to be captioned and take 3 business days to process.

There are a number of ways video content may be made available for viewers.

All of these instances MUST be accurately captioned:

  • Recordings made using the campus Mediasite systems;
  • Videos embedded into the campus website (Youtube, Vimeo, etc);
  • Videos made available in the campus Learning Management System (LMS) - Cougar Courses or Canvas;
  • Video encoded on DVD disc media.

Please note that automatic captions (such as through Youtube) are often times incorrect and are still considered to be inaccessible.

Executive Order 926 from the CSU Chancellor’s Office requires captioning for all video content intended for general distribution at California State University San Marcos.
